    Chester , the red tailed hawk, dropped in briefly to say hello during the plant sale yesterday at Bowman’s, perching low on a slender tree. I was telling a purchaser about her, who misheard her name as Hester! A appropriate name …

    • Look for signs of the Pileated Woodpecker eating on a snag (dead tree) along the road just past the Aster Walk. They like to nest in dead trees, and really love to eat insects, especially carpenter ants. They’ll excavate a hole, probably getting plenty of protein from insects at the same time.
